a Learning Party for Restoration and Inspiration

1pm, Thursday May 4 - 2pm, Saturday May 6 2023

FirstMet United / the AbbeyChurch

at the Corner of Balmoral and Quadra Streets in Victoria BC: On the traditional and unceded territories of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations; lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking peoples.

You’re invited to the party!

A learning party is a gathering designed to highlight all the things you love about a conference - interaction, connection and collaboration with other liked minded congregational/parish leaders, community connectors, church planter-starters and/or spiritual entrepreneurs.

At RESURRECT LEARNING PARTY you’ll make new friends, be inspired by courageous followers of Christ who are taking risks in the Kin-dom and, yes - have fun (since, you know, it is a party - after-all!).

Resurrect 2023 intentionally seeks to highlight those ‘on the edges of the inside of the church’ - and especially BIPOC and or 2SLGBTQ+ leaders. We’ll feature some more familiar ‘names’ as well as lots of ‘local heroes’ who are doing amazing work. Together, we’ll all share in the storytelling and inspiration in larger group and smaller sessions.

If you are a person with a hunger for a new way of being church, come to Victoria to spend some time in praying, worshipping, singing and listening and learning with your people!

Children and Youth are part of the party!

Children (ages 6 - 11) and Youth (12 years and up) will be an integral part of the Resurrect Party. We will offer some age specific events - led by a team including with Youth: Nik Sloat (McDougal UC) and, with Children: Micia Kanstrup (First Met UC) and Sarah Prestwich (First Third Ministries) - as well as integrated participation in whole community gatherings. Children and Youth are $25/person.

The values of Resurrect align with wealth redistribution. While correcting income inequality requires serious and significant changes at the systemic level as well an end to wealth hoarding, we encourage those with ‘enough’ and ‘more than enough’ financial resources to give more to the party! (adapted from Enfleshed). Also, we don’t want cost to be a barrier. Please contact Rob RShearer@united-church.ca in confidence if the cost is a barrier to your participation. We have sliding scale options.

Children (6 - 11 yrs) and Youth (12 +) are $25/ person. To add children and youth to your registration please contact our registrar Jes: LeaderSHIFT@united-church.ca

Some Anti-Oppression Commitments

The work of justice is hard, messy, nuanced and ongoing. Having said that, Resurrect seeks to be a space which challenges oppression and violence and seeks to de-colonize the church. The symbols below highlight some of the commitments that we are striving toward.
